How to make Sooji Halwa Dhaba Style – Sooji Halwa is a very popular dessert in northern India. This dish is especially very popular in old delhi’s Chandani Chowk dhaba’s where this recipe has been handed down from one generation to the next.

A lot of people ask me where can they find the best halwa. Well my answer is Temple, Gurudwara or Old Delhi Chandani Chowk’s Dhaba’s. This dish is server as Parasd in a lot of Temple’s and Gurudwara’s. Sooji Halwa is also used as an offering to God so it has to be made with the best ingredients and obviously sugar. 🙂

Like most recipe’s on our page this is very easy to make recipe, the key is to knowing when the Sooji/Semolina is done cooking and has absorbed enough water. Adding nuts and roasting them at the right temperature gives this soft melt in your mouth Halwa the crunchiness which takes this recipe to a whole new level.

Sooji Halwa ~ Dhaba Style !!

    Ingredients

    • Sooji / Semolina - 1/2 Cup
    • Ghee - 1/2 Cup
    • Water - 1.25 Cups
    • Sugar - 1/2 Cup
    • Milk - 1/4 Cup
    • Kesar / Saffaron - 1 Pinch
    • Cardamon Powder - 1/4 Tsp

    Instructions

    1. In a Karahi / Indian Wok, heat Ghee on med - high flame.
    2. Add Almonds, Roast till light brown.
    3. Add Sooji, Roast till light brown.
    4. Warm the water and add Sugar to it. Mix well till sugar completely dissolves in the water.
    5. Add Sugar water mix to the Karahi.
    6. Warm Milk & add Kesar to it.
    7. Add Kesar Milk Mix to the Karahi while stirring.
    8. Add Cardamon Powder and stir well.
    9. Cook till the mixture is sticky.
    10. Garnish with almonds, kesar & serve!!
